Founding AI Engineer
Hey, thanks for reading this far
We're Instaclause, a 20-person Belgian legal tech company helping 900+ accountants generate contracts, reports, leases, and incorporation deeds without needing a law degree. We're based in Ghent and Brazil, growing fast across Benelux and Europe.
Our product turns complex legal logic into ready-to-sign documents in minutes. It works, customers love it, and now we want to make it a lot smarter. That's where you come in. We're looking for someone who gets genuinely excited about langgraphs, RAGs, evals, LLMs — and wants to build the AI layer that powers all of it. Not in a lab. In production. For real people who rely on it daily.
You won't join an existing AI team - you'll build it. You'll own the full AI stack end-to-end: RAG pipelines, multilingual NLP, cross-border contract engines. The whole thing.
This is a high-autonomy, high-trust role. We'll give you the space to figure things out, the support when you need it, and real users to build for. There's a genuine path to CTO / Senior Architect as we scale — not as a carrot, but because we'll need someone to grow into that seat.
- Building the AI stack from the ground up — architecture decisions are yours to make
- Designing RAG pipelines that pull from legal databases, templates, and jurisdiction-specific rules
- Working across languages — our models need to handle Dutch, French, English, and more to come when we enter new markets (Belgium already has three official languages, what's one more?)
- Shipping to production — 900+ customers use this daily, so what you build actually matters
- Architecting cross-border logic — legal rules differ between Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, France, and beyond
- Collaborating with the team — you'll work closely with our CPO, product team, and developers. We're small enough that everyone knows everyone, and big enough that you won't be doing it alone
- Helping us grow — as we scale, you'll help hire and shape the engineering culture
- Staying curious — new models, new frameworks, new techniques. We'll back you to explore them
We're not looking for a perfect checklist match. If you recognize yourself in most of these, let's talk:
- You've spent 1+ years building ML/AI systems
- You're comfortable with tools like PyTorch, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Hugging Face
- You've worked with LLMs — prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG, evals
- You know your way around NLP — embeddings, text generation, ideally in multiple languages
- You've deployed and monitored ML systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure
- You ship things. You'd rather have something working than something perfect on a whiteboard
- You're comfortable figuring things out as you go — we'll give you a compass, not a GPS
- You speak fluent Dutch and English, French is a plus
- Experience in legal tech or regulated industries
- Background in document generation
- Familiarity with Belgian/European legal frameworks
- Having built a team (or part of one) from scratch
We're 20 people. That means no layers, no politics, no "let me check with my manager's manager." You'll know everyone by name within a week.
We take our work seriously, but not ourselves. We celebrate wins together (usually with food), help each other out when things get stuck, and genuinely enjoy working as a team. If you've ever been at a company where people actually look forward to the team call — that's the vibe we're going for.
- Founding role — shape the AI direction from day one
- Path to CTO — this role grows as the company grows
- Real impact — your work goes live to 900+ customers, not into a backlog
- Hybrid flexibility — office in Ghent + remote. We care about output, not hours in a chair
- Competitive salary — depending on experience
- Learning budget — conferences, courses, tools. Stay sharp, stay curious
- A team that has your back — we're in this together
- Google Cloud-based SaaS platform
- .NET stack (C#), VUE, Firebase
- You get licenses to work with Claude, Cursor, Copilot, Devin.ai, etc
- You'll have real influence over tooling and architecture choices
Send us:
- Your CV or LinkedIn
- A short note about one AI thing you've built — what it did, what you learned
- Why this sounds interesting to you
That's it. No formal cover letter needed. We'd rather have a real conversation.
